Marl padded along softly, taking pleasure in the softness of the thick, velveteen grass. It was a dark, hunter green hue, the color of a healthy evergreen tree. Marl noticed that all the trees were indeed in excellent health, though they did smell most curious. The sky was a sort of pale gray-blue, and the clouds diffused the sunlight. A solitary bird made a sudden reedy call, and Marl pricked her ears.
She had arrived in a place where the plants grew thick and every drop of chlorophyll seemed as though it was tainted. Being an alpha back home, a sense of confidence and leadership rose in her like a phoenix, and she set out to claim her own territory in this new land.
She continued along the meadow at the edge of the forest, and found herself trodding on some beautiful pale pink flowers. She peered closely at them. Their pollen was thick and their petals were patterned with fuschia spots. But their smell! It was a smell like pure poison. Marl furrowed her brow and checked her surroundings.
The black wolf felt instantly at home in this region of rich colors and cloying perfume. She howled decisively and stared into the distance, pleased with herself. This would be her new territory.
She turned and took a glance behind her to see if Black Jack was following. He seemed like a good enough fellow, and she would miss his company if he left.
If Black Jack could heal others, did that mean she had special powers also? She sat down and thought. "I suppose my power will manifest itself when it is needed," she said with a sigh.
