Females. Who could understand them, much less like them? Finn’s breathe hissed through his teeth, both annoyance and pain as he picked up the pace. Lean on her! His growl ended in a snort. Not in the last lifetime. Not in this bloody one, either.
“Cubby,” he grumbled to himself. As if. No cub ever fought off as many full-grown pack males as he had, to save that fool-ass brother of his. He could hold his own. And he never lacked for female companionship, either. If he wanted it. Which was rarely.
So consumed with his brooding, Finn almost failed to notice the rodent scuttling along the water’s crumbling edge. Instinct kicked in, along with a healthy dose of hunger and damaged pride. And the pitiful creature was in his jaws before it even knew it was being hunted. He bit down, heard the satisfying crunch of bones crushing, and tasted the warm, copper tinged blood. It ran over his chin in rivulets, mixing with his own. And Finn turned to the she-wolf as his meal’s heart slowly ebbed to a stop.
“Hungry?”
Of course his mouth was full, so it came out as more of a jumbling of syllables. But at least it was decent, offering to share his hunt with a member of the fairer sex. And it did Finn’s aching pride good.
In a rare show of self-sacrifice, Finn tossed the mangled carcass at her feet.

A weird expression crossed kage's face as she stared at the bloody remains of the rodent. She couldn't figure out if he were mocking her or geniunely offering the catch to her. She was about to refuse when a soft grumble came from her empty stomach.
Trying not to blush, she reached down as her jaws closed over its head. She crunched down, severing the pointy head from the body. She chewed it in her jaws and swallowed quickly.
"Thank you..." She murmured, the words costing her dignity a little.
"You should have the rest. You need to heal and rest."

Had he actually thought to like her better when she was humble? It irritated him, is what it did. Finn downed the remainder of the rodent in two quick bites, thinking he was insane to want that snippy, waspish tongue of hers.
From the corner of his eye, he observed the elegant way she held herself. Her soft coat drew his gaze, and for a moment he imagined what it might feel like, taste like. And she did smell nearly as good as the blood of his meager meal.
Of their own accord, Finn’s legs closed the distance until he stood closer than propriety allowed. And his pain was gone. The ache from his ribs had faded. Suddenly Finn was feeling more than a little frisky, almost drugged in fact. His head whirled, his thoughts scattered to disarray. And the scratches from the brambles felt odd and tingly.
He dropped to his belly, yipped in invitation.
"Don't you want to play with me? Or mate with me, even? I am a handsome devil."
It was then that this unequivocal euphoria faded, replaced with an itching like nothing he had ever before felt. Finn’s playful yelps ended in a whine as he rolled to his back, frantically twisting and rubbing against the rock strewn floor. It was horrible! Vile and furious, as if the flames of hell itself were burrowing through his flesh. Even his muzzle, as covered as it was in the thorny scratches, was afire.
Water! That’s what he needed. Through the oblivion of his distress, Finn sniffed it. Yelped once, and dove headlong into the rushing torrent.
OoC: Should we let the river take us to another territory in different land? If Kage decides to jump in after this brash pup, that is.

'What the?!'
Kage glanced back at the kid as he suddenly closed his distance upon her. A part of her mind warned her of an attack, yet her own disposition prevented her from taking a step back wards or moving from her place. Her angered gaze for his impolite action was replaced with a look of shock and barely concealed disgust.
"What?! Play? mate!?"
'What is this foolish cub talking about? Some thing's f***ed up his mind?'
Her lips drew back wards in a snarl against his unruly and pathetic behavior before she finally grasped understanding that indeed something had changed him. Those scratches... could it have been some plant he had fallen against? It couldn't possibly be the rocks.
As her mind struggled to take in the fact that she now had an injured and possibly insane cub on her paws, he had jumped straight into the stream.
"No! Wait!"
She screamed, ready to leap forward and grab at him but her paws stopped at the water's edge and she trembled. He disappeared beneath the thrashing waves and a panic gripped at her heart. While she detested the way he treated her, she could not shake off the plaguing thoughts that he resembled her younger brother all too closely.
"You idiot!" She exploded with a sudden rage at fate's hand, her bitterness and his foolishness. She lept in, feeling water flood her nasal cavities and her ears. Her eyes burned with the sudden pressure of the water. Kicking vigorously, she struggled to the surface and took in a wretched gulp of air even as she felt the current pummel her body down the raging stream.
ooc: I'm fine with that.
