Blue eyes slowly fluttered open, and a dark head raised from the ground. Slowly a dark figure rose, staggered a bit, as if drunk and then stood still.
"What?" She cried softly, feeling confused. The last thing she remembered was the fury in her sister's eyes as she launched her attack, the snarling of the pack, the sounds of fighting, and then the pain of her sister's teeth tearing her flesh.
She looked around, this was not her packs land, it was peaceful, and she was alone. She looked down at her paws, expecting to see the white stained red with blood, but they were just white, like they always were.
She scented the air, her pack was not, probably never was, here. She sat, confused, heart racing. She thought she was about to die in the jaws of her sister, but now she was sitting in a forest completely alone... this was not normal.... was she..... dead?
"NO" Her mind screamed it, she could not be dead, she was alive, she could hear her heart, smell the air, see the trees, feel the weak breeze. But here she was, all wounds healed, not covered in the blood of her pack mates and alone. Maybe this was some sort of afterlife? Did wolves.... go to heaven? Or maybe she was in hell...

Overhead, a figure loomed. It was a huge eagle, the biggest species of all. The harpy eagle out a piercing high-pitched cry before the pale and dark brown figure dropped into a dive. Swooping over the top of the trees, amber eyes searched for a suitable spot to perch on. Finding a bare branch on one of the larger trees, the eagle flared its wings and tail, landing upon clawed talons before turning to watch the dark-furred wolf. Tilting its head, it let out a shriek to catch her attention.
:: Hullo there Senorita! You're new here aren't you? ::
His mental voice, deep and rich, echoed into her mind as he hopped down a few branches to make himself more obvious, yet far enough from the ground so that she couldn't jump up to reach him. Not that she might of course, he was a huge eagle and his talons might find themselves into her eyes.

Shadow had only merely glanced up at the first cry of the eagle, long gone were the days of an eagle meaning danger to her, as it had been when she was a pup. So she suddenly became alert as it dived down, into the forest. This was a strange place, maybe Eagles here were dangerous....
She eyed the Eagle as it landed and looked down at her, she met it's gaze, since it wasn't her way to back down to an Eagle, even if this one was intimidating with its size. The communication surprised her to say the least, she had never conversed with an Eagle before... maybe it was the strangeness of this land that allowed such a thing.
"Err, yes, I suppose I am new" she replied, hoping that her surprise didn't show, she still was unsure of his motive's, and those talons could to a lot of damage to her. "I am called Shadow" she added, since it seemed the thing to do.

:: Oh really? You're very composed for one who's new to this place. I must applaud you. I suppose you've already come to terms with your former demise. In any case... I am One. Yes THE ONE. ::
The eagle craned its head tilting his hooked beak to wards the sky for a moment in a narcissistic stance. His chest feathers rose a little before he looked down at her and tilted his head genially.
:: Shadow eh? Such a delightfully mysterious name... I suppose it suits you somewhat. Anyway, my purpose here is merely to inform you that Four has claimed the lands of the temple and anyone who wishes to oppose him should do so now... of course unless you would like to join him. I think he might want to form a pack. I'm not entirely sure about that. He's such a pushy fellow I didn't even bother to ask about that. Oh yes I was wondering indeed, how would such a lovely lady like you end up here so quickly? You seem to be in your prime... ::
The eagle, who called himself One, prattled on until he paused to enquire about her death.

The One?? Shadow blinked her eyes, was this bird entirely sane? He was the one... what? But instead of simply walking away, she listened, even if he was deranged he was the only life that she had seen so far.
Her Demise? So, she was dead, this was an afterlife, but was it heaven? Or was it hell? By the sounds of the bird maybe it was hell, she shivered slightly at that thought. Hell, maybe Void had been right, maybe she was weak and stupid, maybe her father and mother deserved to die, or maybe wolves just went to hell.
"Four" she wasn't planning on saying anything, but Four, the Four what? Except it sounded like Four was a single entity, a wolf maybe?? "I do not wish to challenge anyone, I would maybe meet him?" She glanced up at the eagle again, this might not be a good idea, she wasn't sure she wanted to join a pack, but maybe this Four could tell her more about this place, because the eagle wasn't telling her a whole lot. "Will you take me to him?"
She hoped that she came off cool and collected, although her insides were twisting with horror, she was dead and she didn't know what was happening, and she was alone. She had always been very social, her pack was her life and now she didn't have either.

:: Of course of course senorita! That is what I am here for! Follow the beautiful king of the skies! ::
One laughed as he flapped his wings and took off, ascending quickly but moving slowly in terms of distance.
:: Aye but considering Four's temple is so far away, how about we grab something to eat first mademoiselle? This place has nothing to fear! Its a wolf's haven. There are no bears or ugly huge cats. Here, the wolves rule! Its a place unlike earth! ::
One tilted his wings and circled around her overhead, waiting for her to catch up.
:: Aye, there's a herd of white-tailed deer on your left up ahead. I suppose You can't bring down one of them by yourself? ::
He asked her, or rather, just waiting for her to ask for his help. The pompous and narcissistic creature he was.

Temple?? Four lives in a temple, OK this place was definitely strange, but she didn't say anything, all she wanted was some company now, of the canine kind.. this bird was weird indeed.
"Wolves may rule here," she said amused, "But I cannot take a white-tailed deer alone, unless of course it's a very small deer, or the deer here are... different." She wondered what her companion was getting at, maybe One hunted deer as well, he was a very large eagle, but surely not that large...maybe he could attack a deer enough for her to get a decent chance at a deer.
The mere thought of deer was making her realize she was quite hungry. "Well, ... err One, can you hunt deer?" she thought she might as well ask, otherwise she was going to make a fool of herself, now that she knew about the chance of such a feast she was going to have to try to get herself a meal, and her companion too she guessed.

One looked amused now, even though his fierce predatory features remained unmoving. His hooked beak opened a little in a mock laugh.
:: Well of course I can, but I suppose I shall help you senorita. This must be quite a bewildering place to you so what better guide to have than I! ::
He flapped his wings and sped ahead of her quickly, disappearing over the treetops and angling towards the herd of deer.
:: Stay low Shadow! I shall drive these deer towards you and you can pick one that you think you might be able to manage. Stay sharp, I shan't be long! ::
One called down to her before he fell silent, diving downwards towards the deer and startling them. A stag waved his antlers at the huge eagle and attempted to chase One away.
'Heh! Stupid stag! You wish!' One thought to himself as he dived and landed on one of the does' back, digging his talons into her fur and quickly releasing before she bolted and dragged him through the low branches of the trees.
The weight of the eagle on her back was enough to make the poor doe panic and soon the deer were letting out some cries of alarm and bounded away through the forest, in the direction of Shadow.
One gained speed quickly, skimming low to the ground and then landing nearby to quickly shift back into his canid form. Golden and copper-red fur replaced his white and brown feathers, flesh growing over his hard beak as his fangs emerged. The lean male wolf grinned and ran towards the deer herd, expecting that Shadow had already chosen her meal and was running it down, or at least separating it from the rest of its herd. The thought of her surprised hastened his feet. He just loved giving surprises.
