Four emerged from the raging waters victoriously, shook his coat out lest the excess water slow his progress, and waited. His head tilted curiously to the side, still waiting. But no she-wolf. Perhaps she was dragged downstream? Or perhaps she simply had not leapt in at all. Either way, Four had wasted enough time pondering the thought of her.
And if that was disappointment souring his gut, tough.
Four glanced to the sky; saw the silhouette of the infernal wolf/bird thing.
“Mating is the last thing on my mind, One. And I care not to pass on my blood. I simply wanted…” His words trailed off. He’d simply wanted to hurt her. And that urge had surprisingly mingled with long forgotten lust. But there were many wolves entering Venial. He would have another chance, and perhaps…
He shot one cold stare out over the water. Perhaps he would cross the blind one’s path again.
Until then, Four set off, briskly running along the borders of a forest. A longing glance was cast towards the shadows of Velvet Arsenic. The treacherous beauty had always held special appeal to one such as him. But that would be for another day.
Today there was the temple. White and black in a symbiotic skyward merging. He could see its towering expanse in the distance.
“Anything? One?” he called, lifting his snout. What a ridiculous name, he thought, slowing his gait to a rhythmic lope. Let others scent him. Let the Lord know he was coming. Four wanted him to come. Naturally, he wished to be well ensconced within the Temple before that meeting came to pass. Four was no pushover, but neither was he an idiot.
And the Temple of Change was the one place Four might get some answers without retribution. Getting out of the Temple, now that might prove… interesting.
